The Joint Meeting of the International Primatological Society (IPS) and the Malaysian Primatological Society (IPS – MPS Joint Meeting 2023)
The Joint Meeting of the International Primatological Society (IPS) and the Malaysian Primatological Society (MPS) will be held from 19th to 25th August, 2023 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo.
This renowned international event that was first held in Germany in 1966 and will soon land for the first time in Borneo.
The 29th edition of the biennial global congress will happen over a span of 7-days at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) and will include various keynote sessions, plenary sessions, discussions and workshops, exhibitions, and site visits around Sarawak and more!
IPS is a multidisciplinary association of approximately 1200 professionals and students whose work is focused on nonhuman primates. In the last decades, the biennial IPS Congresses have attracted between 650 and 1600 registrants. IPS members include veterinarians, geneticists, psychologists, physicians, neuroscientists, anthropologists, zoologists, conservation biologists, ethologists, zoo professionals, technical personnel, and field assistants; primarily from universities, NGOs, zoological parks, field stations, sanctuaries, and research facilities throughout the world. Both captive and field scientists are active members of this society, so there is great interest in data acquisition and analysis equipment and programs; tracking, navigation, and recording equipment; sanctuaries; databases; conservation efforts and organizations; research and biomedical instrumentation; books, journals and other information resources; captive enrichment devices, caging, diets, etc.
The Malaysian Primatological Society (MPS) is one of the affiliated primate societies of IPS. MPS collaborates and works with local universities, the public, and governmental and non-governmental agencies to build a platform for students, researchers and the public to participate in Malaysian primate conservation. Memberships are open to national and international citizens of all ages and backgrounds who are interested in volunteering with MPS to conduct various primate conservation programs in Malaysia.
